Wakefield Wheel – Steady Plus Ride

Wakefield Wheel – Steady Plus Ride

March 30 @ 9:00 am - 2:00 pm
Doncaster Road
Nostell, WF4 1QE United Kingdom

The Wakefield Wheel is a 38 mile circular route that has a larger radius than the Wonders of Wakefield (WoW). Whilst it shares some of the WoW routing, between Pugneys’ CP and Nostell NT, the other 3/4 of the Wheel route is seperate. The surface varies from muddy path, through uneven trail and everything else up to a bit of smooth tarmac (some minor roads – excluding potholes of course). If you like a challenge, you could do this on a gravel bike but some form of XC or Trail bike would be way more comfortable. Not really for beginners as we’d expect to take up to 5 hours with the cafe stop 1/2 way around. Bring repair kits and inner tubes, if you use them.

Oh, by the way, water on some bits is inevitable and if its drained off, it’ll still be sloppy. Come along prepared for these conditions and we’ll have a great ride.

Parking at Nostell NT is £5 for the day for non-members.

Which ride to choose

All of our rides are of varied lengths and difficulty, ranging from Easy to Steady to Steady Plus. We always ride at the pace to suit the least experienced cyclist and no-one is ever left behind but Easy are 8-10 miles at 8-10mph, Steady up to 20 miles at 10-12mph and Steady Plus over 20 miles at +12mph. We mainly use traffic free routes & minor roads, which are suitable for both hybrid or mountain bikes.

How to book on a ride

All WDCF rides are FREE and you do not need to book in advance, except for The WoW Rides and Eastmoor and Rycroft Rides, which require a booking on Eventbrite.  However, we do ask that you become a Life Member on your first ride, which is free and you will get two maps – WOW & Wheel!

Bad Weather

The weather doesn’t usually stop a ride but in wet weather some routes may be muddy and uneven. The ride leaders are always waiting at the start point so don’t be put off, just dress for the weather.

What to bring

No specific requirements, but it is always useful to bring:

  • Yourself, friends & family
  • A roadworthy bike
  • Suitable clothing
  • A tool kit inc tyre levers and spare inner tubes for your bike
  • A bottle of water
  • We also recommend that you wear a cycle helmet.
